I feel like you got this more or less right by accident. Interception can result in a measurable decrease in the amount of rain that hits the forest floor. Ovington (1954) found that 6 to 93 percent of the gross rainfall may be retained on the tree canopies and lost to the soil. !

I doubt this would happen with a eucalyptus tree as the leaves hang vertically to reduce the amount of surface area that receives sunshine so it doesn't dehydrate in Australia's dry weather. I wonder what type of tree Jesse was standing under?
