In the 8th century BC, Homer wrote about cyclopes in his epic poem “The Odyssey” — but did he know that he was writing about a real medical condition? I never knew that cyclopes existed outside of stories, but it turns out that “cyclopia” is a real birth defect that occurs in both humans and animals. Cyclopia happens when the orbits of the eyes fail to develop into two [More]
Some people might think you’re paranoid if you invest in a home security system. But the fact is that even if you don’t have a history of break-ins, it’s never a bad idea to be prepared. For evidence of this, I present the following video recorded on an admittedly terrible home security camera by Redditor drunle. In a post on the social sharing site, he says that the creepy figure in the video below is a regular stalker of his… I’d say it’s time to invest in some better locks. However, this isn’t the first time the YouTube user has [More]
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); For the adventurous among us, urban exploration is an exhilarating pastime. However, you must be careful when you’re exploring these places. Abandoned buildings are sometimes not as abandoned as you might think. That’s a lesson that urban explorer Jaroslava Langova learned in a terrifying way. Watch it all unfold in the video below. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. (via Reddit) I think I peed myself a little bit there at the end. It’s not like I had any urban exploration plans, but if I did, this video would make me think twice. Read more:
For whatever reason, Peru is a hotbed of extraterrestrial activity. And the latest video to come out of the country is really freaking people out. In it, there’s a group of young men hanging out near a gas pump. At the edge of the frame, a small alien-like creature can be seen skulking around. The men notice it and give chase before it disappears into the darkness. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); Our visiting alien friends seem to be getting bolder and bolder. (via Coast to Coast AM) It could simply be a trick of the light or a flat-out hoax, [More]
If you’re like me and you panic every time something grazes your foot in the ocean, then you’re not going to like this. A huge swarm of small crabs was spotted by researchers more than 1,000 feet below the surface off the coast of Panama, stampeding like wildebeests across the ocean floor. At first, the team thought it was some sort of underwater cloud. They quickly figured out, however, that the mass was very much alive. The crabs have been identified as Pleuroncodes planipes, which are more commonly known as red crabs. Scientists aren’t quite sure why such a crazy [More]
A frighting video that was posted to YouTube in October of 2013 that shows a baby sleeping in-between four poisonous cobras has re-emerged on the Internet this week. In the video, the baby can be seen sleeping on a cot as four cobras take a clear defensive stance all around the few month old child, almost as if they are protecting it. The cobras do appear to have their mouths sewn together though, a cruel practice that stops them from being able to bite. Why did this even happen? Watch the shocking video for yourself below. One of the most terrifying things about the technological world that we now live in is that ghosts and demons seem to have found ways to torment us via phone. Take, for example, the story of Redditor digiwarfare. According to digiwarfare, he and a few friends were hanging out last month when one of them received a text from an unknown number. Attached to the message was an untitled audio file. Not knowing what else to do, he played it for his friends. What they heard was absolutely nightmarish. WARNING: This recording is loud, so turn your speakers down before [More]
There are few things in this life more terrifying than earthquakes. If you’re lucky, you’ll never have to experience one firsthand. But even if you never endure the horror of an actual earthquake, there are plenty more tectonic phenomena out there that seem to be designed with terror in mind. Take this video, for example. It was taken in the town of La Spezia, Italy. The footage shows a cobblestone street “breathing,” with the calming sound of rushing water in the background. Okay, what’s going on here? (via Reddit) The cause of what’s happening is most likely a cavern under [More]
If you were to ask a random stranger on the street their opinion on domestic violence, they would probably say it is disgusting. (Most would call that a no-brainer.) What would they say, though, if you asked them to describe typical domestic abuse? More than likely, they would say it’s when a man lashes out at a woman and physically attacks her… This video, filmed by Dare London, proves that most people have a lopsided opinion when it comes to violence. Two actors went through two different scenarios in a public setting, each focusing on a fight that escalates to [More]
Millions of people are living in informal settlements all across South Africa called shanty towns, these shanty settlements consist of thousands of houses referred to as shacks or shantys. At first glance, these photos below seem to offer a glimpse into the harsh lives of the millions of people living in extreme poverty in South Africa. But that’s not the case. The shacks pictured below are all part of a highly controversial resort that offers tourists the experience of sleeping inside a metal hut for a mere $82 a night. Located near Bloemfontein in South Africa, the shanty town themed [More]
