A building collapsed in Nairobi, Kenya, last week, leaving 23 people dead and 93 missing. Rescuers have been working tirelessly since the moment they stepped onto the horrific scene. Just as they were giving up hope on May 3, however, the team came across a six-month-old baby in the rubble. Miraculously, the child had no significant injuries and only needed treatment for dehydration, which she received immediately. Her name is Dealeryn Saisi Wasike, and her parents could not believe their eyes when they saw that their little one was alive and well after such an awful ordeal. The baby not [More]
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTBT_ATF’); }); With all of the rising hatred around the world right now, it feels impossible to relate to other people. If the comments sections on social media posts are any indication of how people really feel about each other, then it seems like we are doomed to experience fewer and fewer meaningful human connections until we separate ourselves completely. But as the people of Choir! Choir! Choir! demonstrate, sometimes the only thing you need to connect with other people is a common interest, like singing your heart out in unison. In 2011, Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman [More]
I have a confession to make: up until about a year ago, I’d never had cheesecake. I just didn’t think any dessert could taste good with something that, in my opinion, should only go on bagels. But boy was I wrong. Now, I don’t make cheesecake often…or, well, ever. It’s partially because making one takes time — and there’s no chocolate in the sweet treat. So there’s that. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); }); But thanks to this easy recipe, I can solve for both of those problems. If you love mini desserts with chocolate, here’s how to make these: Ingredients: 1 [More]
While on a whale watching trip off Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, a group of tourists managed to witness an incredible sight. It happened after a friendly seal swam up to their boat, something that is quite common during marine life tours, but what left them stunned with amazement is what the seal decided to do all of a sudden. The playful little guy went for a ride on the back of a whale, using his massive body as a real, live surfboard! Seems like he’s having a whale of a time. Definitely gets my seal of approval. Sorry, had to say [More]
When it comes time to pick a vacation destination, you might say there are just too many places to choose from. Allow me to make a suggestion, though… Maybe instead of picking some place you’ll enjoy, choose a destination that will help you face your fears of jellyfish! I know, it sounds crazy, but just wait until I tell you about Jellyfish Lake, located on an uninhabited island just off the coast of Koror in Palau. On this small, rocky island is a saltwater lake that’s home to literally hundreds of thousands of jellyfish. Flickr / Stephen Masters Even more [More]
Costa, a homeless Brazilian man, ended up in the hospital after being attacked by some street thugs. While his injuries were being treated, doctors discovered he had melanoma. This meant he’d have to stay for a couple of weeks in the hospital while receiving treatment, which was a huge problem for Costa because he didn’t live on the streets by himself. He lived with Seco, his loving dog. As he underwent skin cancer treatment, his best friend waited outside in the parking lot for days on end. Since hospital rules do not permit animals to enter, hospital staff provided food [More]
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTAT_ATF’); }); They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and just looking into this fox’s eyes says it all. The poor thing became entangled in a soccer net at a field in Solebury Township, New Jersey. Quick to the fox’s aid were the Solebury Township Police and Medic 146 teams. You can’t help but feel the fear and hopelessness the fox experienced as it sat helplessly wrapped up in the soccer net. That aside, the animal remained calm as rescuers set it free. These guys really are hometown heroes! Thank goodness someone notified the authorities. If [More]
Pigeons. Many hate them. Nicknamed “the rats of the sky,” pigeons don’t really get much love from people in the world. They’re exceedingly common and rarely do people consider them domesticated animals (even though they can be taught). Let’s face it, pigeons are the least likable birds on the planet. This recent discovery, though, may change people’s minds about the humble pigeon. An experiment was conducted to see if pigeons could recognize cancer cells in humans, and lo and behold, the pigeons could actually do it! The birds were 90 percent accurate in one experiment and 99 percent in another. [More]
Making friends can be one of life’s most difficult challenges. Even when you think you’ve found the perfect bestie, they might need a little more time to feel the same…which is something this hilarious husky is learning the hard way. He wants to play with his new cat friend so, so bad, but the feline is not convinced. Of course, that doesn’t stop the persistent pup from trying his darnedest. “See? We have so much in common!” YouTube / Flappy “Pleeeease, be my friend!!” YouTube / Flappy Watch the whole adorable encounter here: Source: Husky Encourages Uninterested Cat to Play [More]
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DTAT_ATF’); }); There’s not a bug spray on the planet that’ll make me feel safe from this thing. The world’s largest beetle, otherwise known as Dynastes hercules, is beyond creepy. Almost the size of a human fist, not only does it have a needle-like nose, but this sucker can fly. Should you come across one of these, we suggest that you run like the wind…unlike the person in this video. Sufficiently creeped out yet? Thought so. Everything is awful and life is full of pain!
